Overview

The Systems Administrator III, focusing on IT Risk and Vulnerability, is responsible for providing strategic technical advice and solutions to departmental leadership, with a strong focus on IT risk and vulnerability remediation. This role involves overseeing departmental coordination, maintaining backup systems, ensuring server and client security patching, and managing vulnerability remediation. The Systems Administrator III will also monitor security events and logs, escalate issues as needed, document processes and procedures, and maintain governance to ensure adherence to these protocols. Additionally, they will manage permissions for systems, file servers, and portals.

Responsibilities

  • Backup Systems Management: Maintain and oversee backup systems, ensuring backups complete successfully and addressing any issues.
  • Disaster Recovery Planning: Expertise in disaster recovery planning and execution to ensure business continuity.
  • Security Patching: Responsible for server and client security patching, ensuring timely and effective updates to protect against vulnerabilities. Oversee and develop processes and procedures for Operating System patching and updates, ensuring documentation is current.
  • Security Reporting: Prepare reports on Operating System security and patching, continuously evaluating and updating security protocols.
  • Datacenter Security: Manage datacenter security by controlling access, inspecting access lists and logs, and ensuring compliance.
  • Vulnerability Remediation: Identify, assess, and remediate IT vulnerabilities to enhance security posture.
  • Security Monitoring: Monitor security events and logs, escalating to other teams when necessary to address potential threats.
  • Cloud Security: Experience with cloud security practices and tools, particularly in hybrid environments such as Microsoft Azure, SharePoint, etc.
  • Permissions Management: Manage permissions for systems, file servers, and portals, ensuring appropriate access control and security.
  • Documentation: Document processes and procedures used within the Infrastructure team, ensuring clarity and consistency.
  • Deployment Lifecycle: Ensure all deployments adhere to a Development-Test-Production build cycle and design implementation for existing deployments lacking this structure.
  • Governance and Compliance: Maintain governance to adhere to documented procedures and processes, ensuring compliance with security standards.
  • Active Directory Management: Structure servers and datacenter devices within Active Directory, control Group Policies, and maintain documentation for Active Directory organization. Perform monthly User and Computer account reviews.
  • Server Performance: Maintain server performance at optimal levels, including proposing necessary equipment and engaging vendor support as needed.
  • Technology Evaluation: Evaluate and develop business cases for new technologies, presenting findings to leadership.
  • Team Training: Train team members regularly on processes, procedures, controls, documentation, and best practices.
  • Customer Engagement: Engage with customers, providing enhanced communication support for System Administrators.
  • Server Administration: Participate in planning, design, installation, monitoring, and support of Windows and Unix-based server platforms, VMware/Hyper-V technologies, backup/communications equipment, and server management tools.
  • Performance Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot issues and maintain optimal system performance.
  • Security Protocols: Implement security procedures as per documentation, and suggest improvements to security protocols to the cybersecurity lead.
  • Policy Administration: Administer standards, policies, and procedures to improve system availability, reliability, recoverability, or manageability in line with corporate and business objectives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field, infrastructure-related certifications are a plus.
  • 5+ years of infrastructure-related work experience.
  • Extensive experience with Microsoft Windows Server (2022, 2019, 2016, 2012, 2008).
  • Proficiency with RedHat Enterprise Linux (6/7/8) and Ubuntu Server (14/16/18/20/22/24).
  • Skilled in virtualization with VMware vCenter & vSphere.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, Firewall and Network Security, WAN, Routing, SDWAN, High Availability, LACP, Failover technologies.
  • Strong networking knowledge and experience.
  • Strong documentation skills.
  • Familiarity with datacenter systems (Power Redundancy, Environmental Controls, Racking, Wiring, and Networking).
  • Scripting skills in PowerShell.
  • Experience with monitoring systems and methods.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Team-oriented, collaborative work experience.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs./18kg.
  • Regular overnight travel (10% of the time) is required.

Compensation and Benefits:

 

Salary range - $95,869 - $131,759 (Compensation will vary based on skills, experience and location; it is not typical to be hired at or above the top of the salary range).

 

Full-time employees who are not on a commission plan are eligible for Verathon’s annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance.
